Hardy and hard working, these men and women from the frigid southern lands of man show that no environment can stop humans.

These humans hail from the village of Hamnstadt, a small, nordic styled village. Having recently landed in these luscious yet frigid new lands this relatively young breed of humans seek to build a mighty settlement from which to expand into the rest of the continent. Known for being especially hardy.

Naming ConventionsEdit

The humans of this land have names that echo those of northwest europe- alterations of Scandinavian, Germanic and Celtic monikers are preferred in order to maintain the feel of an actual ethnic group that fits the climate. This is a nice, quick reference list:

Visual Style

Humans are noted for building standing structures above ground out of a variety of materials. The cold climate and abundance of lumber has made nordic style buildings the ideal for their warmth and simple design in these harsh lands. Buildings are primarily built of wood and rough stone, often fairly squat or set slightly into the ground to conserve heat. A second floor, if one is present, might be little more than a loft. Stone basements are the norm and are used sleeping spaces due to the extra protection from the cold.

Human CultureEdit

Traditionally a Jarl is chosen through gaining the respect of the village through some great feat. A challenger wishing to usurp the Jarl must face him in a traditional rite where both men are sent into the wilderness and given one day and one night to construct weapons and then to begin hunting one another. A Jarl's duties mostly include ensuring the safety of the town and being present at festivities. Should war loom then it is also the Jarl's duty to lead the raids against the offending settlement.

A seer or wisewoman commonly exists within the town, although as a settlement grows there usually become more and more of these as the residents age as well. These wise women often act as priests of Freya although all are known to offer up prayer of some sort to the other forces.

A head architect is a common find in human settlements and landings because new houses are always needing to be build as expansion is a priority, they commonly worship Vosk and ask his aid for their most ambitious projects.

Even in smaller settlements there will be a Trader through whom trade with other races and settlements is usually conducted, the number of these individuals grows with the size of the settlement but they are fairly united in their worship of Aurin and the aid they believe he gives to their business ventures.

The Humans of Hamnstadt have a variety of traditions brought from each of their homelands, mainly as an excuse to take time off from their hard work in the settlement. They often throw sizable feasts, with dancing, music and  plenty of mead before they go back to hard work the next day.Edit
General KnowledgeEdit

Humans have a love of structure in their society, and often elect members of their towns to handle specific duties. They are also known for being ambitious and shrewd. In times of war, their ingenuity is used to great effect, quickly establishing outposts and waging war through ralking, or shows of strength. Even Nords can be diplomatic, though gruff at times.

Law and ReligionEdit

Faith: The dominant human culture recognises four main deities. these gods are more often seen as cultural icons than subjects of organised worship, though they do have priests and temples as well as a the occasional devout follower.

Aurin: Aurin is the god of order and brother of Udd. Some of his aspects are selflessness, civilisation, law, and authority. Some of his negative attributes are Draconianism, violating the spirit of a law to uphold the letter, and moral objectivism.

Udd: Udd is the primal god of disorder and brother of Aurin, his aspects are self-interest, passion, connection with nature, and innovation. Some of his negative attributes are seflishness, emotional extremes, excess, and barbarism.

Vosk: Vosk is an omnipotent and omniscient force managing the hidden machinery of the universe and escorting the souls of the dead to their destinations, largely to prevent them cluttering his workspace. Vosk is known to have sired Aurin and Vosk from before his work enthralled him entirely, although this is before even the oldest sun. Some humans think Vosk may not be a god at all, but the universe itself, so invested is he in his eternal task. Vosk cares little for the squabbles of Aurin and Udd and only notices mortals when they produce a structure grand or gifted enough to be worthy of drawing his attention from the stars.

Freya: Freya is the wife of Vosk from before time itself, not long after the appearance of Aurin and Udd (and their eternal squabbling) she was unsurprisingly neglected by Vosk and left with only the sparse life which had just begun to spring from the grounds of the newly formed planets. Given leave to tend to the newly forming gardens Freya was delighted by the appearance of the three races. Her words only found true purchase among the humans though, dwarves ignoring her entirely and instead worshipping a perversion of Vosk. It seemed as though elves would also find peace as her children but they were too bloodthirsty and twisted her words over and over until they came to worship the being they call the Red God.

Racial Attitudes

Humans are generally friendly to the other races- at least, on the surface. They are quite wary, and are fascinated by the abilities of the other races and often seek to harness them through trade and hire. Industrious and ambitious, they will seek to gain every advantage they can muster over the other races.
